About Boy Abunda

Boy Abunda is a Filipino journalist, talent manager and television personality.

Boy Abunda - the Philippine King of Talk

He was born on October 29, 1955 in Borongan City. When his father died, he dropped out of school and tried odd jobs to survive. He later found a job in Metropolitan Theater as an assistant stage manager and became an assistant to Conching Sunico, the administrator of Metropolitan Theater who taught him about public relations. After two years, he put up his own PR company called Backroom, Inc.

While doing PR consulting jobs for GMA Network, a network executive at the time, suggested that he try television. Soon, he became one of the hosts of Startalk, an entertainment talk show. 1. Dear Sir Boy,
I’m an avid fan of yours, i see your sincerity in taking care of your talents. That’s why i want you to check this guy out in Cebu. He has the resemblance of both Rico Yan and AJ Perez combined. So, let your staff visit Red Ribbon in SM City, Cebu. The name of the guy is GIAN, i saw it in his nameplate. I think he will be a good material.
Thank you, and God Bless you and Family always.

  4. Hello Boy it is rather short for me to comment on the too many talks about the Azkals out there. Are we in for another kind of wrong free commercials re the Azkals, or does the now talked dole outs of the PCSO will include a hidden but big budget for these players? What about our basketball teams, our bowling teams, our softball teams, and our young and good Olympic hopefuls.
Does the Azkals do celebrate in winning one and losing a hundred? Are they ready for the fight, or are they ready to become mistresses of movie stars, or pimps to those left behind, let us say – give credence to those that deserves it. I bet you Boy that those actresses who are towing the not so Filipinized Azkals will surely go down the drain and will also drain their money, most of all their life….So What anyway.

  5. Dear Mr, Abunda,

I am Francis Nob from Lipa City. But I am writing to you now regarding a club that you are endorsing, namely: http://www.clubastoriaplaza.com/.

We are members of this club since 2008 and the first time we used our privilege is only this year when we traveled to KL this year. Our subscription in on alternating year and so we still have a credit for 2011.

I call last week to reserve dates for Astoria Shaw on August and for Astoria Boracay on November. After waiting for a return call for a week, I called again today only to be told by a certain Zha-zha that our credit has already expired.

I was fuming mad and demanded such decision be reviewed management.

I thinking something is wrong here. This is not how the Astorai Club membership was presented to us when they were still trying to convince us to pay P180,000 for the membership,

I was told that an email was sent to my 65 year old auntie. This is totally wrong. If there should be changes in the privileges of the membership, Astoria should exert effort to personally inform the members and personal calls should be made before the benefits expire.

Your photo is in their site and for us, such is an assurance that services of institution you endorse are of highest quality.

I hope you can help us.

    Thank you.

  10. Hi Boy,

Nagpadala kami ng email ng invitation sa La Carmela Restaurant sa Makati at finafallow-up namin yon every now and then pero hindi pa rin kami nakakakuha ng feedback from the staff of the restaurant.

Ang MCC Makati continues to reach out to the LGBT people in the country.

I provided my email address in this form, so if you can respond to my email…I would really appreciate it Boy.

    Maraming maraming salamat po.

  12. Dear Mr. Abunda,

I hope you’re doing ok. I am writing to you because I would like to know how my niece (a Fil-Am from Florida) will be one of your talents. In a nutshell, my niece is 21 years old, a BS Psychology graduate, and recently was one of the candidates in the prestigious Ms. Florida-Universe. She and her parents are visiting Manila in November 2011 to meet up with a talent manager (I do not want to name her but she’s quite known also), but I would want her to be in your care as a talent because I believe in your integrity as a person and that being said, I know that my niece will be in good hands. My niece resembles the Ms. Philippines-Universe, Ms. Supsup.

Mr. Abunda, I hope you will take time out to notice this message and I hope you will give my niece an appointment to meet with you in November 2011 when she visits Manila. Should you be replying to me my email is posted above, and looking forward to receive an email from you. Thank you and more power. God bless

  13. I suggest you produce a TV show, like Oprah does…

Suggestion for a Show on TV

Oprah winfrey network in the USA has an unprecedented, the six-part
television series “Finding Sarah” documents Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of
York’s emotional struggle to rebuild her life.

I suggest you also make a show like this in the Philippines, I suggest you
have Nora Aunor, starting when she comeback to the US, with highlight with
her undergoing surgery. Her day to day life and undersoing the surgery and
after that. Suggest her to go to a Psychiatrist to solve issues within
    herdelf, emotionally.

I believe, this is a good idea, since she has fans also from the higher
    class, and
also good for the Filipino channel promotion.

  14. Dear Mr. Boy Abunda,

I’m an avid fun of yours…….a mother and a plain housewife named Don, 17 years old from Tacloban City, Leyte. Tinawagan po kmi for a contest on the lunchtime show sa abs-cbn daw. I see your sincerity in taking care of your talents, i do hope you can help him, he is very much willing to become an artist someday.
Thank you and may God Bless you always.
    just search hm donmichealvalle.

  15. Hello sir. Remember me? It has been a long time since I last saw you. 1998. I am a student doctor then in UST (Medicus Et Vitae Fraternity singing contest, Drs Wongchai and Ngo). Di pa rin kayo nagbabago. Same old brilliant host and still flying high with great comments and interviews. Kudos to you sir and I salute you no end.

    Thank you and God bless.

  16. If I have an idea for a show? Where should I go and who to talk to? I have several ideas for a tv show and it is all original.

  17. Hello Boy Abunda,

I have been watching you on The Buzz and I noticed how your interviews with celebrities lack objectivity. I personally believe that is the role of the interviewer to get as much information out of the interviewee and at most should keep their personal beliefs to themselves. It seems as though for every question you ask, your opinion is listed even before the interviewee can answer the question. Does that not make the interviewee respond with a biased answer? And as for the length of your questions..they take more air time than the answer of the interviewee. So..the question really is, are you interviewing who your interviewing or are you publicly announcing your opinion?

  18. Hi Boy,

You might say that I am a fan because I am impressed with your intelligence, wit, humor, education, spirituallity and knowledge of the world. All of us here in BC, Canada (family & friends) always watch your shows. I know Kris Aquino is your friend, pero di ba bagay sila ni Richard Yap (also known as Papa Chen Sy of My Binondo Girl)? Ewan ko ba why I imagine them together (in a project) – I don’t know if he’s married. They’re both Chinese (good) looking but mukhang total opposites. Where Kris is kikay & kaloka, Richard teems with quiet strength & seems a responsible guy, which is what the kind of man Kris needs in her life (I don’t mean Papa Chen’s character in the series). May angles din si Richard na hawig ni late Ninoy Aquimo (kris’ dad). I hope you can guest him the THE BUZZ. While also on the topic of “guesting”, can you invite the Pinoy Biggest Loser male (ex)contestants who are Restaurateurs, to THE BUZZ – like Ryan (who owns Teresita’s), Eboy (who owns Pedeli’s) and Art (who owns various bars). How has their experience in the camp and in the show affected their lifestyle and how will it affect them since their source of income is in the Food & Beverage Industry? Thanks so much and I look forward to seeing these men in THE BUZZ. God bless!

  19. My son who is half Philippino won a Winnipeg Cbc Canada contest for the best band in the city . We were wondering if you can point us in the right direction as to who we can contact to promote him and his band in the Philippines.

    Best Regards

  21. Hi Mr. Boy Abunda, I am a big fan of your work and all the things that you stand for. I just want to say something about your talent Hermes Bautista, I heard a lot of not-so-good things about him. Some of my friends met him and he took advantage of them.. One of them is from abroad and she even went back home just to meet him because he promised he’ll wait for him but when he got what he wanted he just left her like that hanging and stopped all their communications. I am just a concern friend here, because she really thought he’d be different and now she is in a bad shape. I hope you can help me with this. I feel so bad for her.

    Thank you and God Bless.

  22. Hi Boy,

I am a fan from Australia – my Philipino wife and I watch Bandila regularly and even though i can understand little of it, I am very impressed with how well you relate to people you interview, how you are always exceptionally well presented, your level of professionalism, the depth of knowledge you have on so many subjects, your grasp of the English language, etc etc. In summary you are very entertaining and a joy to watch.

    Praise where Praise is due!

    Thank you,
