Age doesn’t matter

Love works in mysterious ways. Not even social class, distance, gender, culture, religion, age, and even height can stop anyone from falling in love. I have seen several beautiful relationships when the man is years younger than the woman and vice versa. This is not unusual anymore. People have long accepted that love is indeed beautifully strange. You see such relationships everywhere and in the movies where a passionate connection exists between two people whose ages are disparate. On Sex and the City, Samantha (Kim Cattrall) has a serious relationship with a much younger man whom she is still with when the show ends. In Hollywood, there are famous celebrity couples whose romance transcends age.
Hollywood’s super couple Tom Cruise (born July 3, 1962) and Katie Holmes (born Dec. 18, 1978) are collectively known as TomKat. The two gained international media attention when they began dating in 2005 despite their 16-year age difference. At a business meeting in Tom’s office, the actor called up Katie to read for a part. Sparks flew between them during the four-hour meeting. TomKat made their first public appearance in Rome for the David di Donatello Awards in 2005. Tom has made several declarations of his love for his beloved Katie. Remember the episode on The Oprah Winfrey Show when Tom jumped like a little kid on the couch? He even went backstage to pull out a surprised Katie. The “couch incident” was voted No. 1 of 2005’s Most Surprising Television Moments on E! countdown and was the subject of several spoofs. Barely two months into dating, TomKat were engaged after he proposed on June 17, 2005 over a candlelit dinner at the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower with a stunning five carat diamond ring. They were married in Bracciano, Italy on Nov. 18, 2006. Katie was raised a Roman Catholic but converted to Tom’s religion, Scientology, shortly after the couple began dating. Their adorable daughter Suri (commonly called TomKitten by the media) was born on April 18, 2006 at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, California.
Many girls were heartbroken when Demi Moore (born Nov. 11, 1962) married the dashing bachelor Ashton Kutcher (born Feb. 7, 1978) in 2005. The private ceremony was officiated by a rabbi of the Kabbalah Centre and attended by around 100 close friends and family of the couple including Demi’s former husband Bruce Willis. The sexy Hollywood actress started dating Ashton who is 15 years her junior in 2003. Their romantic relationship sparked so much public interest and had been a delicious fodder for the media. Demi was married before to singer Freddy Moore and to Bruce with whom she has three daughters. Ashton has previously dated young actresses January Jones, Ashley Scott, Monet Mazur, and Brittany Murphy. Demi has legally changed her last name to Kutcher two years after marrying Ashton but she continues to use Moore in her professional career.
American pop icon Madonna (born Aug. 16, 1958) is 10 years older than her husband English film director Guy Ritchie (born Sept. 10, 1968). They met in 1999 through friends Sting and his wife Trudie Styler. The couple was married in Skibo Castle, Scotland on Dec. 22, 2000. They have a biological son Rocco John Ritchie who was born in Los Angeles, California and an adopted Malawian baby boy, David. The family has homes in London, Los Angeles, New York and Ashcombe House in Wiltshire.
Academy Award-winning Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas share the same birthday, September 25, though 25 years apart. She claims that Michael said to her, “I’d like to father your children” when they met in Deauville, France. They were married at the Plaza Hotel in New York City on Nov. 18, 2000. A traditional Welsh choir sang at their wedding. Catherine’s Welsh gold wedding ring which was bought in the Welsh town of Aberystwyth has a Celtic motif. They have two children Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta. They have homes in Pacific Palisades, California; New York City; Aspen, Colorado; Bermuda; Majorca, Spain; Swansea, Wales; and Ridgewood, New Jersey. Michael was once married to Diandra Luker with whom he has a son. In 2000, after 23 years of marriage the couple divorced.
Harrison Ford (born July 13, 1942) has been married twice: to Mary Marquardt (1964) and to screenwriter Melissa Mathison (1983). He has two children each from these past marriages. His second divorce has become one of the most expensive in Hollywood history because Melissa was awarded a share of Harrison’s residual paychecks. Harrison is now dating Calista Flockhart (born Nov. 11, 1964). The Ally McBeal lead actress met him at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards after she spilled wine on his trophy. Despite the 22-year age difference, the pair started dating within a week. Many wondered if Calista will join her long-time boyfriend in his film Indiana Jones 4 as his love interest. Apparently the answer is no but Calista broke the news in a humorous manner. “It’s not true. He’s way too old for me,” she said.
Susan Sarandon (born Oct. 4, 1946) is 12 years older than her longtime partner Tim Robbins (born Oct. 16, 1958). They met on the set of Bull Durham and have been together since 1988. They have two sons Jack Henry and Miles Guthrie. “Age hasn’t been a factor,” Robbins told Playboy in 1995. “Each person is who they are. I’ve met young women who are old; I’ve met older women who are young.” Susan was once married to fellow student Chris Sarandon while in college. They divorced in 1979 but she retained her married name as her stage name. In the mid-1980s, she dated director Franco Amurri with whom she has a daughter, actress Eva Amurri.
