MANILA, Philippines – King of Talk Boy Abunda is happy about spending his own money for Mario O’Hara’s “Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio.”
Although he came in late for a special screening of the film at the Dream Theater of the Cultural Center of the Philippines recently, he was still impressed by the remaining footage of the film.
At the theater lobby after the showing, we asked him if it was worth investing in the project.
“Of course, yes. The very moment Laurice (Guillen, one of Abunda’s wards and one of the prime movers of Cinemalaya where O’Hara’s movie will be exhibited) told me about the project, I didn’t have any second thoughts investing on it,” he said euphorically.
Abunda is one of the producers of the historical drama about the treason case filed by the revolutionary government of General Emilio Aguinaldo against Andres Bonifacio at the turn of the century.
Other investors include Mike Miclat and Boy So.
He clarified he didn’t even get to see or read the script of the film prior to its shoots.
“I didn’t get to read the script en toto. All I was thinking was that Mario O’Hara was the director who gave Nora Aunor her first ever acting award,” Abunda chuckled.
“That’s me. If I believe in a person or a project, I give my best, I give my all,” he quipped.
He didn’t even talk to O’Hara before, during and after the shoot and post-prod.
Being one of the producers, however, Abunda said he would sit down with Mario to discuss the possible marketing plans for the film.
“We will see what we can do to sell the product. I know it is a beautiful film. This is the kind of movie that we should be part and be proud of. This says about our history and going back to the past is very inspiring,” he said.
Abunda attended the special screening with his talent, Arnold Reyes.
