ABS-CBNNews MANILA, Philippines – Who will have the honor of singing the national anthem during the inauguration of President-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino?
According to Aquino’s sister, actress-host Kris Aquino-Yap, the task of singing the national anthem during the inauguration is a toss-up between Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda and singing sensation Charice.Aquino-Yap said she has requested the inaugural committee to include a popular singer to join the Philippine Madrigal Singers in performing the national anthem.
“Para sa kabataan at para sa masa, maganda may Charice or Arnel [Pineda]. I’m trying my best right now to get Charice or Arnel,” she told reporters during a press briefing at the Quirino Grandstand’s VIP lounge.
She said that Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez could also be perfect for the task but the singer already has a special number with her real-life sweetheart, Ogie Alcasid, during the inauguration.
The national anthem will be performed as soon as President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo leaves the Quirinio Grandstand at Rizal Park in Manila.
Before this, President-elect Aquino will fetch Mrs. Arroyo from Malacañang and both of them will ride the presidential car to the Rizal Park. Arrival honors have been prepared for Mrs. Arroyo.
After the symbolic shaking of hands, Mrs. Arroyo will leave the park on board a separate vehicle, leaving to Aquino the presidential car.
Aquino-Yap told reporters that June 30 inauguration would be full of activities from morning until night.
From the Quirino Grandstand, the event will transfer to the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City where popular actors, actresses, bands and singers will perform.
She said that almost all the showbiz personalities who campaigned for Aquino will be present at the concert.
Aquino-Yap said she has asked the family of Vice President-elect Jejomar Binay to convince action star Robin Padilla to join the festivities in Quezon City.
