MANILA, Philippines – Cager James Yap has asked a court to grant him visitation rights to see his 3-year-old son, Baby James, with estranged wife Kris Aquino.
Accompanied by lawyer Lorna Kapunan, Yap, in a press conference on Monday, said Aquino’s text message that allegedly told him that he could not visit Baby James prompted him to seek the legal remedy.
“Dumating na talaga ‘yong time na kailangan mo na talagang magsalita. Siyempre sa kapakanan ni Baby James,” he said. “Naka-receive ako ng text na, ‘Hindi mo na muna puwedeng makita si Baby James hanggang hindi pa natatapos ang kaso natin.’”
The actress-television host has filed a petition asking the court to nullify her 5-year marriage to Yap.
In Yap’s petition, he is asking the court to allow him to visit his 3-year-old son twice a week as well as to allow his son to sleep at his home once every week.
He also asked the court to allow him to bring his son to his hometown in Escalante, Negros Occidental to visit his grandparents.
Yap also said that he got hurt when Aquino, in her petition, asked the court to give her full custody of Baby James.
He said he was also surprised when he learned that Aquino wants to change Baby James’s surname from Yap to Cojuanco-Aquino once their marriage is nullified.
He said he last saw Baby James on July 30 after his son’s vacation in the United States.
