Award winnng actress Judy Ann Santos has been declared an official, adoptive daughter of Cuyon Island–the 4th class municipality in the province of Palawan where the actress filmed the movie “Ploning”.

Santos said her adoption as a daughter of the island adds more to her happiness, especially after “Ploning” was chosen as official entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category of Hollywood’s Oscar Awards.

Santos said that she never thought that residents from the island would adopt her as one of their own.

“[Ang saya ng pakiramdaman na malaki] ang paniniwala nila sa iyo at nakakataba ng puso na gusto kang ampunin ng mga taong ito,” Santos said.

The actress said that after the showing of “Ploning” they went back to Palawan to attend the island’s fiesta celebrtion and the island’s screening of her film. She and her besft friend actress Beth Tamayo were caught by surprise when they were welcomed with plaques of recognition, declaring them as certified ‘cuyonin’ or natives of Cuyo.

Santos added that she was overwhelmed with the adoption especially because she has fallen in love with the place.

To show her support and appreciation Santos also did an ocular inspection at island’s hospital. Santos said she will soon be back in Cuyo for a medical mission.

“Ploning” at the Oscars

Santos is now in cloud nine because her well-acclaimed film ‘Ploning’ was chosen as the country’s official entry to the 2009 Oscar Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

“Finalist for the Oscar’s kung baga magiging representative ng Pilipinas… pero mahabang pagka-nerbiyos pa ito,” Santos said.

It was during a meeting last Friday, August 29th when the Board of Governors of the Film Academy of the Philippines approved the selection of “Ploning” as the country’s representative for the Oscar’s.

The film is the story of Ploning (Santos), a woman who is considered as the town’s beauty who is torn between keeping her two promises — one is to look for her greatest and first love Tomas in Manila or stay in Cuyo to take care of the young boy Rodrigo, who depends on her motherly love and care.

Santos who is still facing a tax evasion case is also busy for her upcoming TV series “Humingi Ako Sa Langit” on ABS-CBN.

“Hopefully maipalabas ng October in time for sa iba pang soap na ilalabas sa kabila,” Santos said.Judy Ann Santos adopted as daughter of Cuyon Island
