‘Kris Aquino’s Despedida’ Facebook page a hit

MANILA, Philippines -Two months ago, Kris Aquino-Yap said she’s ready to leave the country if her brother, Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, wins in the May 10 polls.
Yap, whose personal life has always been a subject of scrutiny and is said to be a liability to Aquino’s candidacy, said she’ll continue her acting and hosting career abroad through ABS-CBN’s The Filipino Channel (TFC) if it’s what’s best for her brother and the Philippines.Currently, TFC has offices in Asia Pacific (Hong Kong and Singapore), Australia, Canada, Europe, Middle East and North America.
“Sinabi ko nga kay Noynoy, ‘O Noy, kung makakasira ako sa’yo in case presidente ka na…mag-aabroad ako at magtratrabaho sa TFC office abroad.’ (I told Noynoy, ‘Noy, if I’ll be a cause of stress to you in case you become president…I’ll go abroad and work in a TFC office),” she told ABS-CBN News. “Mas mahirap ang posisyon ni Noynoy kasi may kapatid siya na kagaya ko (Noynoy’s in a more difficult position now because he has a sister like me),” she jokingly added.
Aquino now has a lead of about 5 million votes, making him a few steps away from being proclaimed as the Philippines’ next president.
He didn’t accept his sister’s offer, thinking that it was a joke.
“At ang sabi ni Noy sa akin nung gabi, ‘pinagprapractisan mo ba ako ng teleserye mo? Nagdidinner lang tayo eh’ (And Noy told me, ‘Are you practicing your lines on me for your teleserye? We’re just having dinner’),” Yap said.
Despedida?
It was supposed to end there, since Aquino didn’t consider his sister a liability to his leadership and platforms.
And then, the “Kris Aquino’s Despedida” (Spanish word for “farewell party”) Facebook page came.
The page, which now has 7,113 members as of 4:21 p.m., has a common message to the popular TV host — keep your promise and pack your bags.
One wrote, “One good thing to look forward to after Noynoy assumes the presidency is the possibility of Kris Aquino-Yap leaving the country.”
Another one remarked, “Another thing why millions voted for her brother? Sasaksakin daw niya lahat ng sisira kay Noy. Scary! Well she deserves to leave!”
Yet another user complained, “Ay please please please. Make Kris ambassador to some little island far away. Please spare us all the cry cry cry. O please. Overdose period. No more teleseryes, commercials, talk shows, magazines, radio shows, ads, etc. etc. Whatever. Just give us some quiet!”
Just for fun
Despite the huge following of the Facebook page she herself created, Internet user Maye Mariano made it clear that she has nothing against Yap.
Mariano made the statement as a number of members started an exchange of harsh words in defense of and against the popular TV host.
“This page was created purely out of fun. I have nothing against Kris Aquino. Let’s all move on, shall we? This is just a page. Get over it,” Mariano said in a wall post.
She added: “Ayaw ko lang ng may mag-aaway pa dito. Exagge. Nawawala iyong point nung topic eh. Despedida lang tapos kung ano-ano iyong napag-uusapan. World peace na lang. At least di pa sasakit ulo nating lahat.”
“(I don’t like people fighting in this page. That’s not the point of this topic. It’s just a despedida, and everyone’s talking about something else. Let’s just talk about world peace instead.)”
No answer…yet
One of abs-cbnNEWS.com’s entertainment writers tried to contact Yap via her Twitter account on Wednesday to get her side of the issue.
Abs-cbnNEWS.com asked: “Will you be true to your word that you will leave the country if your brother wins?”
As of posting time, however, Yap hasn’t given any response.
Yap is currently on vacation in Boracay, and will be back on Saturday. Entertainment website PEP.ph earlier reported that Yap will be leaving the Philippines for a Disneyland vacation with her 2 kids, Josh and Baby James.
“During the entire campaign it was a non-stop assault on me as a person, a mother and a sister. Well they didn’t succeed then and with the love and support of my sisters and my brother, they won’t succeed now,” she said in a text message to PEP’s Jo-Ann Maglipon.
