These past few weeks, the Philippine Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) and Commission on Elections (COMELEC) happen to be pretty vocal with their call for leave of absence among political endorsers within the showbiz industry. And in line with this issue, several concerned parties couldn’t help but demonstrate their dismay. According to most of them, the said act is apparently an uncalled for violation of their rights as responsible voting citizens of the country. As renowned TV host Boy Abunda himself pointed out on his late night entertainment show Showbiz News Ngayon, “We are responsible citizens. We have basic rights, including freedom of expression.” Boy’s co-host Kris Aquino supported his claim. According to her, it is basically unjust to strip off the celebrities from their corresponding shows simply because they opted to take a political stand. For her, as long as these artists aren’t relentlessly abusing their airtime to promote their particular endorsements, there is in fact no reason for them to plead guilty on PPCRV and COMELEC’s accusation pertaining to the violation of the Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Elections Act. In a calm manner, Kris even reiterated her previous claim regarding this issue. She says that she is ready to face the cost of her position any time—even if it is as grave as spending time behind bars. Bravely, she utters “If the statement is ‘I want freedom of expression for all Filipinos,’ then I am very much willing to suffer.” First Posted: abs-cbn.com Watch Your Favorite Movies, Tv Shows, News And Sports Anytime You Want Here!
