“Ploning,” the country’s bet in the prestigious Oscar Awards next year, has received a P2.5-million financial support from the government and Film Development Council of the Philippines.

“Nag-pledge ng support worth P2.5m to cover some of the expenses na kakailanganin namin to lobby ‘Ploning’ in Hollywood,” Ploning lead star Judy Ann Santos announced.

The financial assistance was handed to Santos and film director Dante Nico Garcia on November 17.

“Very thankful kami, very grateful kami sa mga taong nagbigay ng suporta,” Santos added.

Garcia, on the other hand, said he was overwhelmed by the support that his film is getting from various sectors.

“Ang sarap-sarap lang noong nakikita mo ‘yong mga tao na nagtutulung-tulong. I would like to think na simula lang ‘to for us to be given a chance to be seen and heard sa Hollywood,” Garcia said.

Santos will fly to the United States on December 8 for the red carpet screening of “Ploning” in Hollywood.

In a previous interview, she said Filipino-American stars in Hollywood, including Lou Diamond Phillips and Rob Schneider, are expected to grace the screening.

Ploning is one of the 67 entries vying for the Best Foreign Language Film award.

The film is about the story of Ploning (Santos), a woman considered the town’s beauty who is torn between keeping her two promises — one is to look for her greatest and first love Tomas in Manila or stay in Cuyo to take care of the young boy Rodrigo who depends on her motherly love and care.

The Oscar nominees will be announced on January 22, 2009.

    Boy Abunda,

I just finished watching your interview with the Agriculture Secretary and he is a blessing to the Filipinos. I am a retired Fil-Am who was planning on spending my retirement years in the Phil. with an advocacy of getting children off the streets and into the classrooms. With my limited funds, I will try to start with at least 10 children. Give them education with food, shelter and clothing.

If Mr. Secretary can train at least 10 people in his Department who can implement all the ideas mentioned in your program, we are heading to a great Philippines.

Mother Mary made a prediction through Sister Emma De Guzman about the Philippines. It was mentioned by the Blessed Mother that with this new leadership, the country will be heading to greatness as long as the people will not forget their “purpose of existence” on earth..

With the help of the Phil. government, he is very right that the people should strive to make a living by going back to their own provinces, till the soil and raise livestock, they will eat 3 times a day. I heard all the comments made by the Bottomliners and it only lead to one conclusion.

ALWAYS THINK OF WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND NOT WHAT THE COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU. This should be relayed to the poor people who grumbles instead of utilizing what is available to them from their government (remember “Exodus”). Their problem is negativity and scared of at least trying to proceed in to the promise land, which was the main reason they did not achieve the purpose of their being relocated. We got too many good government programs that should be implemented and (without any personal interest involved) it all should work for the benefit of the people.

I pray for his success in giving initiatives to poor people to make their lives better in the province. May God’s blessings be with him all the time. And also, God bless you and your program.

    Thanks,

    Nilo
