Pokwang celebrates birthday; says she’s stronger now

Actress-comedienne Pokwang marked another year of her life with a fun-filled birthday celebration Tuesday night, August 27 at a bar in Quezon City.
Pokwang, who’s now one of the most sought-after comic icons in the country, shared her special night with her closest friends in and out of showbiz and her family.
In an interview, Pokwang said that she couldn’t ask for more since she’s already happy with all the blessings she’s receiving right now.
“Actually wala na akong ibang wish. Ang wish ko para sa anak ko na lang, sa pamilya ko na manatili kaming buo, walang magkakasakit, yun na,” Pokwang said.
Pokwang who recently made headlines after she was referred “aswang (a witch…night creature)” by veteran actor-comedian Joey de Leon through a novelty song he sang in a show abroad, said that she’s also thankful to all her detractors for making her a better and stronger person.
“Sa mga detractors ko, wala akong masasabi kung hindi thank you dahil sa inyo natututo akong lalong maging matibay,” Pokwang said.
Spotted at her birthday party were ABS-CBN executives like Ms. Rikka Dylim of Star Magic and Kapamilya stars — Nova Villa, Mariel Rodriguez, Sam Milby and Anne Curtis.
Previously, Pokwang already wept on the Sunday variety show ASAP’08 when ABS-CBN stars greeted her a happy birthday. Pokwang did a number with Martin Nievera. She also received a special message from her one and only daughter, and Ms. Anabelle Rama.
In the interview, Pokwang said that Rama was instrumental in making her a success.
“Alam kong medyo nagkaroon tayo ng (isyu) before pero malaki ang naitulong ng isang Anabelle Rama sa pagiging Pokwang ko, thank you.
Pokwang who turned emotional while giving her birthday message, never failed to thank her ABS-CBN family, fans and supporters.
Dubbed as “Babaeng Bakla, “Pokwang or Marietta Subong in real life is a member of ABS CBN’s Star Magic group of entertainers. She rose to fame after winning in ABS-CBN‘s “Clown in a Million.”
Aside from co-hosting “Wowowee,” Pokwang is a regular cast of “That’s my Doc” every Saturdays at 6 p.m. with actor Aga Muhlach. She is also busy doing shows in various localities in the country and even for Filipino communities abroad.
