THERE’S NOTHING WRONG with appointing a show biz celebrity to a Cabinet position, according to Gabriela Rep. Liza Maza.
Maza came to the defense of television host Boy Abunda, who had endorsed the lawmaker in her recent Senate bid, rapping critics who scoffed at the idea of an entertainer becoming a public official.
“Mr. Abunda deserves respect and not below-the-belt criticisms. Branding him as a mere entertainer incapable of doing serious government function is an unfounded and disrespectful remark,” Maza said in a statement.
Presumptive president-elect Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III had told reporters last week that he was considering the appointment of Abunda to a government post—like the Department of Tourism.
Aquino noted that Abunda studied at Ateneo de Manila University and was working on a master’s degree in international relations. He also considered the TV host, who has a show with his sister, Kris Aquino, to be trustworthy.
Kris and Boy are considered BFFs (best friends forever).
Abunda in his talk show, “Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN),” on Wednesday said he was not prepared to leave show biz at this point in his life. He also denied being offered any position in the new government. Continue Reading..
